Overview

Ras Al Khaimah’s Department of Public Services is set to launch a transformative road development project on Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road (E11), commencing September 1, 2025. The initiative aims to modernize the vital artery stretching from Al Hamra Roundabout to the E11–E311 (Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road) junction, dramatically improving traffic flow and regional connectivity.

Why It Matters

Ras Al Khaimah is experiencing dynamic growth – with a rising population, surging tourism, and landmark developments like the Wynn Al Marjan Island resort underway. The expansion is critical to reinforcing infrastructure that supports both residents and businesses, making it a timely investment in the emirate’s future.

Phase 1: Immediate Measures (Approx. 24 Months)

  • Lane Expansion: Doubling capacity from two to four lanes each direction, and adding a parallel service road for local traffic.
  • Utility Infrastructure: Upgrades across electricity, telecommunications, irrigation, rainwater drainage, and street lighting—featuring modern LED installations.

Traffic Diversions: Partial closures near Al Hamra Roundabout and construction of a 2 km temporary detour road to maintain vehicular movement.

Phase 2: Long-Term Enhancements (Approx. 21 Months)

  • Bridges, Underpasses & Tunnels: Infrastructure development at four key nodes:
    • Dolphin Junction (S4)
    • E11–E311 Junction (D1)
    • Red Tunnel (S3)
    • Mina Al Arab Tunnel (F1/F2)

Traffic Management: Addition of extra lanes and deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for smoother flow and better safety.

Project Scope & Timeline

  • Distance Covered: ~11.5 km from Al Hamra to E311.
  • Timeline:
    • Phase 1: 24 months
    • Phase 2: 21 months
